Life

Everything that doesn't fit on a résumé

I think you learn more about an engineer from how they spend a Saturday than from their tech stack. So here's the Saturday version.

What I'm into

Five things I'd happily talk about for an hour

🍜

Cooking

Mostly Vietnamese food, mostly badly at first. Making phở taught me more about patience than any codebase ever did — you cannot rush the broth.

📷

Film photography

An old Canon AE-1 and 36 frames at a time. The limit is the point: when every shot costs something, you actually look before you press.

🏃

Running

Half marathon done, full one pending. Long runs are where I debug things I couldn't solve at the desk.

🎒

Travel

Three countries lived in, a lot more visited. I collect train rides and neighbourhood markets rather than landmarks.

📚

Reading

Design, systems thinking, and the occasional novel to remind myself that people are not state machines.

🎹

Piano

Self-taught and permanently intermediate. Entirely for me, which is exactly why I've kept it up.

Chapters

A few moments that shaped things

  1. New country, new language speed, no safety net. It rearranged my sense of what counts as a hard problem, and I've been calmer under pressure ever since.

  2. We didn't win. But I found out I love the specific feeling of a rough idea becoming a working demo overnight, and I've been chasing it since.

  3. Trained for four months to prove to myself that slow, boring consistency actually compounds. It does — in running and in everything else.

  4. A side project that grew into the thing I most want to talk about. Here's what it does →

"You can't think well if you only ever think about work."

— Something I remind myself roughly once a week
